Laptops: Ultra Portable Covertible LifeBook U820

Published by debcook under technology Edit This

The LifeBook U820 Mini-Notebook is a very stylish compact notebook that weighs less than 1.5 pounds. It is one of the most unique ultra compact touchscreen notebooks on the market. In fact it is a convertible design with a 5.6” screen that swivels and folds back on top the keyboard.

Windows Vista comes standared but do not expect it to live up to your desktop replacement notebook as far as speed, brightness, hard drive space or full size keyboard. However, it is very capable for what it is meant to be. Portable computing is its number one function. The 4-cell battery provides decent battery life (depending on how the LifeBook U820 is being used) and security is covered with the built-in fingerprint reader.

The hard drive is available in either 60GB or 120GB capacities. There is 1GB Ram and it supports Ready Boost if you need more speed. Bluetooth, WiFi and 10/100NIC provides plenty of connection choices. A built in webcam provides you the opportunity to communicate live with friends and family.

Maybe one of the most stand-out features is the integrated GPS receiver. Instead of buying a stand alone GPS device such as a Garmin or TomTom it may be just as well to have a fully functional computer as well. Price wise you may pay twice as much (approximately $1000).

Ultra-Portable notebooks are not for everyone. Comfort is compromised for convenience. Unless you want to carry a notebook around with you all the time you may not need one. I have to say though that the LifeBook U820 is hard to resist – even at first sight.
