Mobile Gadgets: A Hand-Cranked Weather Radio Should be in Every Emergency Kit
The storm season is fast approaching. Electric power is vulnerable to high winds and downed power lines. Once the power goes off we are left without important information about the weather situation facing us.
Battery powered radios are great but due to non-use for a long period of time the batteries run down and we forget to replace them on a regular basis.Thankfully, we do have to depend on batteries.
The Eton Self Powered Hand-Crank AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio (Picuture from Amazon) does not need batteries. This radio is versatile however when it comes to ways to power it. It has been equipped with a hand-crank, rechargeable batteries, an AC adapter and it also accepts AA batteries.
The hand-crank further sets the Eton radio apart from other portable radios. If all other power sources are exhausted you can crank up some more. This radio also includes a flashlight and has a cell phone charger jack.
Not only does it operate as a normal portable radio but there is also a built in siren, an LED beacon that spells out “SOS” in Morse code and a walkie-talkie all designed to make others aware where you are in case of an emergency.
Being prepared is something that all scouts learn early on. We should all learn the same lesson before we need it.
