Mobile Gadgets: My Sony Vaio P arrived today
A Sony Vaio P series laptop – ah – netbook – ah Lifestyle PC arrived today. After pre-ordering it a couple of weeks ago I have been waiting impatiently for it to arrive. At this moment the battery is charging so this will be a good time to relay my first impression.
It is black, shiny and very cool looking. It looks remarkably like my Vaio TX series laptop only half the size. It measures slightly over 9.5” long x slightly over 4.5” wide. It is a mere .75” thick. The outside is entirely smooth black with tiny specks of silvery glitter. When held in the light just right it sparkles – kind of. Guys do not worry – it is very elegant and not a bit cheesy.
The screen does not cover as much space as it looks like it could. The screen is 8” with a bezel surrounding it. A motion eye camera is located in the upper right hand corner.
The keyboard is almost exactly the same size and layout as my TX Vaio. What is missing? The mouse pad is missing. In its place is a tiny pointer stick. It will never be as useful as the mouse pad but I know that there is simply no room for it. The keys are slightly raised and there is plenty of space between them that hitting the wrong key is not an issue.
I am anxious to see how quickly the 128GB SSD will boot into Vista Home Premium. One reason I chose the SSD is so that I can carry it around without shutting it down completely. I find that my Vaio TX does not get used during the day as much because booting up and shutting down takes too much time.
Once I have a fully charged battery I will let you know how this Sony P performs.
