Mobile Gadgets: Find fun and treasure with metal detectors

Published by debcook under technology Edit This

I firmly believe that we all need to have a hobby. If boredom surrounds you when there is no place to go and no one to talk to there should be something that can hold your attention. But what should it be?

In my opinion a hobby should excite you. You should look forward to participating in it.

A fairly low cost hobby that can be shared with you and others or by you alone is treasure hunting. Before you scoff – I am speaking of exploring with a metal detector.

I cannot tell you how many times I have seen people searching the local football field early on a Saturday morning. They were hoping to find coins and even jewelry dropped by attendees of the football game the previous Friday night. It appeared that they enjoyed the cool morning air and the quiet before the rest of the town woke up.

Depending on which metal detector you choose you could possibly search for goodies along a river or lakeshore. No one wishes that a swimmer should loose a necklace or ring but it is thrilling to find it if they did.

The “American Hawks Explorer Metal Detector w/Waterproof Search Coil” is such a metal detector and works for a beginner as well as a seasoned hunter. A detector with a digital readout is less complicated than detectors that depend on a needle dial to guide you.

Searching dry land or at the water’s edge you have the opportunity to find treasure. You can search for all metals or by adjusting the sensitivity you can ignore junk metals. A signal sounds giving you a good idea of the depth and size of the object as well.

Treasure hunting with a metal detector could be the hobby you are looking for. It is a hobby that could more than pay for itself in just a few outings. Share it with your kids, your spouse, your friends or go it alone.
