Gadgets: Tech time can put you behind on other tasks
Be aware that when you have something really important to do on any given day - do that task first. It is so easy to get distracted and involved in other projects. Today was that kind of day for me.
I began the day right on schedule. But then I noticed the box containing the new Slingbox sitting on the floor. I had purchased it a week or so ago and had not installed it yet. So without much ado I opened the box and hooked it up to the cords and cables that had been on the previous version Slingbox. No problem there. I downloaded the Slingbox Pro software and all went well until it would not recognize my router.
There had been some issues with the router – or I suspect that the problem was with the router.
· My husband’s computer cannot access Google – some kind of re-direct going on. No viruses or Trojans so I figured it could be an IP address problem.
· Each time I connect my wireless laptop to the network my husband is knocked offline.
A trip to the local Wal-Mart was supposed to correct all of these issues. I decided to upgrade to the Linksys Wireless-N Ultra RangePlus (WRT160N). This model is so much more attractive than the WRT54G. Anyway, I made the mistake of running the enclosed software. For most of the afternoon I worked at connecting my husband’s desktop to the network. My desktop connected but his would not.
Finally hit the reset button on the router and restarted the Modem, the Router and the desktop computer – in that order. Amazingly it connected and all has been well since.
Then I saw the box containing the new Samsung Digital Cam – also purchased but not setup. After charging the battery I began trying to figure it out. After a couple of hours of mishaps I have everything working except the ‘iCheck” battery check feature. This gadget may be going back – not sure yet.
So here I am nearly at the end of my day off and have not gotten much accomplished. Google is still being re-directed and I am not sure whether my laptop will knock the network for a loop if I connect wirelessly. I think that I will leave well enough alone for now and move onto the tasks that I have to finish before the day is over.
