Mobile Gadgets: Why must I fight my music during my morning jog?

Published by debcook under technology Edit This

Getting fit does not require music but it sure makes working out more enjoyable. That is unless the music player becomes more trouble than it is worth. Then, what if the weather is bad – do you want to take the chance of damaging your expensive iPod?

Experimentation has become a regular part of my morning jogging routine. Carrying even the lightest weight device in my pocket is uncomfortable. Every step causes a thumping against my body. A neoprene belt works pretty well but I have to remove my iPod each time that I need to use its controls. I am back to carrying it in my hand and I don’t like it. The headphone cables slap me and it is annoying.

I have considered an armband. Instead of tying just any ordinary armband I would like to try the SportCommand (a wireless iPod controller). It is weather-resistant and my iPod could stay safely and comfortably tucked away. Running in the dark (with gloves on) brings on additional challenges so the large buttons should be easy to use by touch. The RF wireless connection between the SportCommand and my iPod would solve the headphone cable problem as well.

Other than using my iPhone with my Bluetooth headset to listen to my workout tunes this is the best I can do – at least until there is a wireless and weatherproof training watch that doubles as an iPod.
