Gadgets: Right click least used yet first to go
Why does the right click button on so many computer mice stop working? Overuse? Bad design? I am not sure what the reason is but it happens quite often.
After searching the Internet for the reason behind the right mouse button not working I found no answers. There were a lot of people talking about the issue – but no one gave a good answer.
It really does not make sense. Typically the most used feature on a device will go first. However, I cannot tell you how many CD drives I have replaced on computers at work. I assume that rubber pulleys and the like dry out and crack from non-use. Then just when you need it the most – snap – and the CD drawer will not open.
The story is the same for computer mice. The left button is clicked continuously day after day – yet the right click button is the first one to stop clicking. Again, just when I need that little drop-down box it is not there.
You know what they say about mice – where there is one there is many. A computer mouse that works perfectly fine except for the right button is impossible to dispose of. They gather in drawers and cabinets waiting to be put back into service in a pinch. Why do we think that it might work better the second time?
