Gadgets: Before you build me a new gadget please ask me what I want
Well, no sooner did I (nearly) make a decision to buy a Dell Mini9 Netbook – I read about the Intel Classmate Netvertible (CTL 2go Tablet). It is not available to purchase yet but it may be next year.
I love the name “Netvertible”. It is a great name because I had guessed what it stood for before I read the post by the Mobile Gadgeteer of ZDNet fame. I’ve already written about my attraction to Touchscreens. I also like the option of a QWERTY keyboard. This new little device has both.
I can tell them exactly what the “Netvertible” needs. How about adding a 32GB SSD in addition to the 60GB hard drive. I totally love the swiveling 8.9” Touchscreen – just make it durable – and oh yes, I want to see it easily in sunlight. 1GB of memory is OK but let me have 2GB if I want it. The Intel Atom processor is fine (although I have not used one-but I would if Dell or Intel would send me one to try) from what I read it is plenty adequate. I know they think that the price has to be around $500 but I would pay $1000 for the features that I’ve mentioned.
This is a case like some other things in my life, my opinion is not always asked for. I have not received emails from Dell about my preferences for the Mini9 either. Just in case Michael reads this post – I want a 32GB SSD!
I wish that manufacturers and gadget designers would offer a checklist for us users to let them know what we want before they build gadgets that fall just short of what we want.
