Mobile Gadgets: SSD Netbook mobile enough for daily use
SSD drives are winning me over. My true preference is a combination of both as in the Sony Vaio TT laptop series. The combination is available but you will pay dearly for it (in some cases over $4000).
I should clarify just a bit. I want a true hard disk drive on my primary computer. If I delete a file I want a chance to restore it.
I would like to have a second computer – (my favorite Dell Mini9) with an SSD drive to carry around with me day to day. I like that SSD drives boot up quickly. I like that there are no moving parts, unlike a hard disk drive, so that I do not have to worry when I move it around while booted. I like the low battery consumption so I can keep it booted up during the day.
Why do I like the Dell Mini9? I like the size – small but not too small. The processor is an Intel Atom. The SSD options are 8GB and a 16GB (my favorite). Last but not least – I want the XP OS. The price is reasonable at around $500 to $600.
Within the next few days I will make my decision. What is holding me back? I want at least a 32GB SSD.
