Gadgets: Chat with the phone on your wrist

Published by debcook under technology Edit This

A wristwatch cell phone sounds gimmicky to me. I would not have searched one out but I accidentally happened upon some. I tried to imagine how they would work before I read their descriptions.

I guess they would work well as a speakerphone.
· Holding your wrist to your ear seems ridiculous. Most have small speakers so speaking from a short distance should work.
Surely they have Touchscreens.
· How do you dial the phone? Maybe there are tiny little keyboards. I have seen those before on PDA type watches.
I assume that they have Bluetooth.
· A wireless headset would make talking over the phone very easy as with any other cell phone.

Amazingly, most wristwatch cell phones have these features plus more – some are even unlocked. Would you expect that they would accept a 512MB MicroSD card? Some will support files formats such as MP3s, MP4s and JPEGs. Add a sound recorder and a stopwatch.

These are not the only features found on these “007” style wristwatch cell phones. They are not for everyone but they are real and several models are available for purchase today.

You may assume that these watches are all ugly. Remember – beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The “Gold Edition MP4 Watch 1GB – Bluetooth + Widescreen” sold on Amazon is an example of an almost dressy style.
