Gadgets - What to look for in a digital camera for kids

Published by debcook under technology Edit This

Digital photography is fun for kids as well as for the adults. Even the youngest photographer wants to have a real digital camera. If you don’t want to hand your expensive digital camera over to your kids buy them their own. The choices are varied and even though they are toys they take real pictures. You have to remember that most kid’s digital cameras are not capable of taking the highest quality digital photos but if the kid is happy then you should be also.

Features that you typically find on a kid’s digital camera:

· Small LCD screen – typically 1.1”
· Low resolution
· Tough casing so that they can be tossed around
· USB connection and photo editing software
· Internal memory

Features that you would like to find on a kid’s digital camera:

· Larger screen – 2” would be nice but I would not hold my breath
· Integrated – Auto Flash
· At least 640 x 480 resolution - 1+ megapixel
· View Finder – one that lets kids look through both eyes
· Tough casing with easy to hold grips for little hands
· USB Connection and photo editing software
· Internal memory
· SD Slot for expanded memory
· Good battery life

Kid’s digital cameras are like any other digital camera in that they need good light and a steady hand to produce a good photo. Low light and movement will cause blurry pictures. Kid’s that are interested – and most are – will eventually figure out how to get the pictures they want. In my opinion the most important thing is to expose kids to the world of photography. Digital photography is especially great because if the photo is bad it can simply be deleted without any extra cost.
