Mobile Gadgets - Battery chargers go green

Published by debcook under technology Edit This

People are constantly on the move. Gadgets constantly need to be re-charged. Whether you want to be “green” or if you just want to be better prepared a solar powered charger is a good thing to have in you arsenal of mobile devices.

A solar powered battery charger depends on sunshine. The more sunshine you have available the better - but ordinary daylight will work just fine. A solar battery charger converts the daylight/sunshine into electricity then in turn charges small electrical devices.

There are many portable battery chargers out there but they are big and they are heavy. I have three different portable battery chargers that I use for different needs. One is to start my riding lawnmower. Sure it would charge other devices but this particular one works great for this purpose. The second one I have is more powerful (600 Watt) and I keep it charged incase of a power outage. It has a flashlight, a radio, three electrical outlets and cables to start my car battery. It is powerful enough to charge my laptop and cell phone time after time. The third one is specifically designed to charge my Samsung Qu1 UMPC for over nine hours.

All of these portable chargers work great but each one of them depends on having an electrical source to charge them in the first place.

I want a solar powered charger that is rather small. A folding design would be nice because I worry about the glass panels getting broken. It needs to be strong enough to charge my laptop as well as my cell phone.
