iPhone 3G - Hope for cut/copy/paste in v2.1 update?

While browsing my email today I noticed that there is quite a bit of speculation about whether the iPhone needs to have cut/copy/paste – a function found on Windows Mobile devices. Some say that the feature is not that big of a deal and others like me say yes it is.

I do not understand how someone would think that the cut/copy/paste function is not important. I suppose that is why many of us Windows Mobile users have a difficult decision on whether to buy an iPhone in the first place.

Hopefully what I read (in more than one place on the web) is true. It is suspected that an upcoming iPhone update called v2.1 (not to be confused with the already released v2.0.1) will address the cut/copy/paste function as well as some exciting additions to the GPS. I hate to get my hopes up too high so I will not waste too much time researching further right now. However, I will be clicking on links that look promising.

Why is the cut/copy/paste function important to me? I want to have the ability to quickly change and update my calendar and tasks (when I get tasks on my iPhone) on the go. How many times do appointments change? It is a total waste of time to retype the information and the probability of making mistakes is high. This is too reminiscent of my three ring date book days.

It seems that Apple is afraid to give the iPhone power users the tools needed to conduct business. I love the iPhone because of many of its unique features but it is a shame that I have to beg for the simplest little features like cut/copy/paste, tasks and folders. Yes I have compromised and I am learning to use the features that I have but I still yearn for more. I scroll through the AppStore daily hoping that I will discover that perfect 3rd party App.

MagicPad is one 3rd party App that looks promising. From what I can understand it will provide some relief to those of us that need cut/copy/paste. It is not available from the AppStore right now but it may be soon.

I hesitate downloading new apps to my iPhone incase Apple decides to fulfill my requests. My face is not blue yet though because I am not holding my breath.
