A friend of mine has been looking for an electronic device to hold all of her digital photos. For days she has asked me what I think about this or that gadget. First I thought about an iPod but she wants a fairly large screen. OK the Zune, Epson and Archos as well as several other devices come with large screens with up to 100GB of storage. The prices were a bit high so we continued looking. I even suggested that she buy a new PDA type cell phone so her digital photos could be viewed from an SD card.

Then I realized that she has a Garmin Nuvi GPS unit in her car. It has a 4.3 inch wide screen and the device itself is thin enough to carry in her purse. The Nuvi accepts SD cards and so the solution is obvious. Among other multimedia options such as an MP3 player and audio book reader, the Nuvi lets you see a slide show of your digital photos.

Using the Garmin Nuvi as a digital photo viewer is a great option – at least in the beginning. Often we buy gadgets only to find that we either did not need them or that we seldom use them. Since she already owns the Nuvi she is not going to be out any extra cost until she knows exactly what she wants.
