Mobile Browsers - Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta

Opera Mobile 9.5 beta is said to give you the “real” Internet experience on both Smartphones (w/out touchscreens) and Pocket PC (with touchscreens) cell phones. Since my 3G iPhone – yes I am still whining – has not been “direct fulfilled” yet I thought about downloading this new software to my TyTN aka 8525.

Previous to this release I downloaded Opera Mobile 8.5 and eventually deleted it from my cell phone. I found it confusing and it did not live up to what I thought it would do. What disappointed me? I want to look at and interact with web pages on my cell phone! I do not want to see boxes with a red X; I do not want to see links that I have to click to go further – my gosh it takes forever to get to each page – why would I want to go through that?

To be fair, I know that my cell phone does not have an abundance of memory and that is precisely what is required to run Flash – even Flash Lite or whatever is missing that would otherwise give me what I want. Even if I was willing to deal with the challenges mentioned above I never did quite figure out the interface of Opera Mobile. It was difficult to enter a URL, I could not find the navigation symbols and frankly it did not seem to be much improvement over Internet Explorer.

I decided not to download the newly released beta version of Opera Mobile 9.5. I almost gave in to temptation to give Opera one more chance until I read the list of known issues. I do not need the stress of having self-induced hiccups on my cell phone. I’ll wait a few more days for my iPhone.
