2nd Generation iPhone - Will I buy one?
2008-07-10 20:38:44
Tomorrow morning, July 11th, 2008, I plan to be at the AT&T cell phone store when the new 2nd generation 3G iPhone goes on sale to the public. Black version or white version – still not sure which one I prefer. 8GB or 16GB is an easy choice however. It’s the 16GB for sure.
I was mildly enthusiastic for the 1st generation iPhone but I am unusually (for me) enthusiastic about this new one. Honestly, I like the looks of the metal backed 1st generation iPhone best but I like the features of the new 3G iPhone enough to compromise. If you had asked me a year ago if I would wait in a long, long line just for the privilege of plunking down several hundred dollars to buy an iPhone I would have said “not a chance”.
Why have I had this change of heart? There are five features that I want. First - the large touchscreen and the totally cool interface. Second – the integrated GPS will save the cost of a separate device. Third – The ability to use Microsoft Word and my POP3 email accounts. Forth – The 16GB storage will be large enough for downloads, podcasts and digital photos. Fifth – the ability to interact with websites better than with my PDA cell phone running Windows Mobile 6.0.
The number one negative feature that is almost a deal breaker is the non-removable battery.
I will report on my purchase if it happens.
