Ultimate Mobile Work Site - My Van
This week has been a test of patience, endurance and mobile connectivity. Fortunately success is the final description for the week thanks in part to my AT&T 881 USBConnect card.
In December of 2007 a huge ice storm brought most daily activity to a stand still. No light, no heater, and no Internet connectivity. That was the week that I decided to purchase a “mobile connect card” for my laptop. It was an exciting day when I walked into the local AT&T store and found (in stock) my new 881 USBConnect card. I could hardly wait to get it home!
Installation was pretty much straight forward. No software to load – just plugged it into the USB port and followed the prompts. One issue that caused a hiccup was my version of Roxio CD Creator. Problem solved once I uninstalled it. After numerous searches on Google I read a post that convinced me that I needed to upgrade my Roxio to at least version 10. I also uninstalled the (unactivated) conncection software for the built in WLAN on my laptop.
I am still not sure that the cost ($59.00 per month) is actually worth it on a day to day basis – but the few times that I have really needed it – I can guarantee that it is. Just this week it turned my van into my mobile office. Major equipment problems in my (and my husbands) small business forced me to be off site. I took advantage of the new found time to catch up on some communication and computer work.
Time to travel is in short supply but the few times that present themselves have been made much easier with my AT&T 881 USBConnect card. I have found very few “dead” spots and overall the speed is pretty good.
